Principal David Cohen talks about how moving forward with technology improves overall involvement at Midwood High School. “Students are already using technology in so many aspects of their lives, they’re hardwired to it, it’s what they know. The ability to use that type of technology, not just to do their social networking but now also to expand their learning process, is something that they easily jump on board with and are eager to do.”

	At TCEA 2010, Elise Garza describes how eChalk saved the day when she couldn't make it into her own classroom in person after breaking her ankle: “Everything was up on the class page. My substitute came in, would have to take attendance, and that was about it. If the kids didn’t understand the assignment, they would email me.” After this experience, Elise describes eChalk as a "life saver" for the classroom educator.
Student Access to Teachers and Tech: Carol Taylor, Greene County Middle School

{summary}

	Carol Taylor is “getting people to be 21st century learners transitioning into the age of technology.” She is the Instructional Technologist at Greene County Middle School in North Carolina. In this clip Carol talks about how students can easily gain access to teachers and resources via educational technology. Her job is to integrate technology into both lesson plans and the school’s communication. In this role she is able to see how parents are kept in the loop with electronic communications, one of her favorite benefits. In her district, as in most, students are not the most reliable transmitters of information home. However, Greene County has found a way around this, so much so that parent/teacher emails are one of the most common forms of communication.

Online Communication Works for Students, Teachers, and Staff: Michael Dixon, Greene Central HS

{summary}

	Michael Dixon’s high school uses an online lesson planner to distribute information from the classroom to administrators and into the home. This is particularly helpful for students home sick or out of school for an extended period of time. The high school also uses online communication to vote for homecoming queen, senior superlatives and student government. Michael explains how online communication is a large part of the daily process at the school, but not just for students. Faculty have active dialogues outside of weekly staff meetings with online discussion boards. Greene County High School uses online communication in a creative way so that all stakeholders participate.
