Randy Hall
Director, Professional LearningHow did you decide to work in education?
I’ve been working with schools and teachers for the past 15 years. I started out as an elementary and secondary music teacher and then got involved in arts education with my work at Carnegie Hall, where I developed and managed its nationwide arts education programs for schools and teachers. When I first learned about eChalk, I was like, “Wow! If I had a tool like this when I was teaching, it would have been great to use with my students and teachers!”
Describe the eChalk culture.
eChalk really gives an individual the opportunity to make a difference and to excel. Anyone who is really passionate about what they do can succeed here. The energy, excitement and commitment that’s dedicated to developing strong relationships with schools and districts and providing top quality service to our customers makes us unique as a technology company. It’s not solely about the product at eChalk, but also the service; people and long-term relationships that we know are critical to helping our customers succeed.
What do you like best about working at eChalk?
There are so many extremely talented, smart and dedicated people to work with at eChalk that it provides a great amount of personal and professional satisfaction in being able to engage in high quality work. Everyone is always focused on how we can help this school or that district accomplish their goals in the best way possible. There is also a great sense of personal empowerment provided to staff and a high standard of excellence is expected and rewarded.
How would you describe eChalk customers?
eChalk’s customers are always striving to do more for the parents and students they serve. Districts, schools and teachers today are always working to overcome extreme challenges in their work. There are so many great stories about all the “good things” that are going on in schools today that I always encourage them to really maximize the use of eChalk to “share the good news” and combat the pervasive education-bashing that sometimes only appears in today’s media.
Describe your fellow eChalkers.
My fellow eChalkers are high-spirited, willing to laugh at themselves, passionate individuals who possess an internal core belief in being the absolute best in everything that they do.
What moment stands out most during the time you’ve worked at eChalk?
Since I get to work directly with our customers out in the field, I get to see how quickly and easily schools and teachers actually are able to get up and running and become successful with eChalk. That gives me a great sense of pride and confidence in knowing that eChalk really is the best out there.
How do you describe eChalk to your friends and family?
My friends and family are always amazed at the amount of travel I do as part of my work at eChalk. While it’s not for everyone, I love it. I get the rare privilege to be able to visit different areas of the country, meet and learn from some great teachers and schools and pass on stories and successes from one place to the next. I tell my family and friends that eChalk gives teachers and schools more tools they can use to be successful and that it gives me the opportunity to be part of that success.
What surprised you most about working at eChalk?
That a really simple idea put into practice by a small number of dedicated and talented individuals actually can make a difference and be a successful business.
What excites you about the future of eChalk?
I look forward to every time I have to get on a plane, make a hotel reservation or hop in a rental car. When I do, I know that I’m going to see first-hand how eChalk can help teachers save time, schools communicate more effectively and efficiently and parents become more engaged participants in their child’s education. As eChalk expands its work with more schools and districts, I’m excited about the possibilities to visit different parts of the country. It’s great to be out there where the action is!
