Megan White
Senior Client Manager, NYCWhat drew you to eChalk?
I graduated from business school with aspirations to become rich and own a casino one day. However, during my last semester of college I found myself working at a technology office for a non-profit organization. I realized that I enjoyed spending my time helping others in some way and wanted to work for a company with a noble mission. My good friend passed along a job description for eChalk, implementing technology systems in NYC schools. I knew after my interview that I wanted to work on the NYC Team at eChalk.
Describe the eChalk culture.
Entrepreneurial Spirit + Dedication + Resourcefulness = eChalk Culture.
What do you like best about working at eChalk?
My favorite part of the job is when I go out and meet with NYC educators and listen to them tell me about their very real day-to-day challenges. Once I understand what they need to accomplish, I can show them how they can use technology to make their lives easier. It’s these interactions that make me feel like I am truly making a difference for someone else and their school.
How do you describe eChalk customers?
NYC eChalkers are an intelligent, passionate and feisty bunch! They make amazing things happen at their schools and are all truly dedicated to educating students. I am grateful I get to work with the schools in the city that I live in; I feel like I have a connection to all the schools I work with because we are all New Yorkers. Our customers also help us make our product better. The company really listens to its customers and we always try to enhance the system based on their feedback.
Describe your fellow eChalkers.
We are all friends. Despite any differences, everyone at eChalk has a common goal and a dedicated passion towards helping teachers teach and students learn. We also always have a great time together at company gatherings; eChalkers are fun!
Is there one memory that stands out during the time you’ve worked at eChalk?
I was interviewed by the NY Daily News for a great success story about how eChalk was being utilized at South Bronx Preparatory High School. I was nervous, but the interview went really well and the story ended up running in the paper! My mom was so proud!
How do you describe eChalk to your friends and family?
“eChalk. Like electronic chalk. We build Web sites and communication systems for schools.” We don’t make or sell electronic chalk (is there even such a thing?!) but every time I say that, people nod enthusiastically as if they know what I am talking about.
What surprised you most about working at eChalk?
I often work with the company’s President & Co-Founder, Torrance Robinson, on projects for the NYC team and I was always pleasantly surprised that he took such an interest in our team’s work. He was always there to provide feedback and encourage us to try out new ideas. He’s quite busy running the company, but he always finds the time to talk to everyone, listen to what they are working on and provide personal insight.
What excites you about the future of eChalk?
eChalk has big plans for the future and I can’t wait to introduce our latest and greatest technology to all our NYC schools. It will allow educators to continue to harness the power of technology to improve education. If I say any more it will ruin the surprise…
